Terms of Service: MakerFoundry
Effective date: November 2, 2026
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These terms are an agreement between you and Bruce Wattendorf, doing business as SiteSentrix ("SiteSentrix", "we", "us"). They cover MakerFoundry (makerfoundry.app): a marketplace where makers share and sell machine-embroidery designs, laser-cut files and 3D-print models. By browsing, downloading, making an account or publishing a design, you agree to them.
- Browsing and free downloads need no account.
- Making and publishing designs needs a Foundry Account: the one sign-in for SiteSentrix's apps (StitchFoundry, MakerFoundry and those that follow), run by the StitchFoundry cloud service. StitchFoundry's Terms of Service (stitchfoundry.app/terms) cover the account itself: signing up, passwords, Foundry credits. These terms cover what you do on MakerFoundry.
- Selling designs also needs you to accept the Seller Terms (makerfoundry.app/seller-terms).
You must be at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live, if older) to make an account.
2. Your account on MakerFoundry
Signing in to MakerFoundry keeps you signed in on that browser with a cookie. A sign-in unused for 30 days ends, and signing out, or resetting your password, ends it on every site.
To publish designs you choose a maker profile: a name and an address on the site (makerfoundry.app/makers/your-name). These are public. Your email address is never shown to other people.
3. Downloading designs
Each design has a licence chosen by its maker, shown on its page. When you download a design, you agree to use it only as that licence allows. In plain words:
- Personal use: make things for yourself and as gifts; don't sell what you make.
- Small business: you may sell up to 200 items made from the design.
- Commercial: you may sell as many items as you like.
- For those three: never share, sell or give away the design file itself.
- Creative Commons designs (CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC0) follow the Creative Commons licence named on the page, linked there.
The licence is between you and the design's maker. MakerFoundry isn't a party to it, but we may remove designs or accounts that break it.
Test first. Embroidery and laser results depend on your machine, settings, fabric, materials, needles, thread and laser power, which neither we nor the maker can see. Test-stitch or test-cut on scrap before using a design on something that matters.
4. Publishing designs
In these terms, a "design" includes a 3D model: the files to 3D-print something (STL, 3MF, OBJ), its CAD sources (STEP) and notes, with its images.
When you publish a design, you confirm that:
- you made it, or have the right to share it under the licence you choose;
- it doesn't copy anyone else's design, and doesn't use anyone else's logos, brands or characters without their permission;
- the photos are of your own work, and the listing describes the design honestly.
You keep ownership of your designs, files and photos. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store them, make previews and smaller copies, show them on MakerFoundry and in links to it, and deliver the files to people who download them, under the licence you chose, for as long as the design is published, and afterwards for files already downloaded or bought. You can unpublish or delete your designs at any time.
Files are checked. We read every uploaded design to check it and to draw its preview. Files we can't read are refused. Photos are saved again as new images, which removes their hidden details (such as where they were taken).
Makes. When you post a photo of something you made from a design (a "make"), you confirm it's your own photo of your own work. It stays yours, and you give us the same permission to store it, make smaller copies and show it on the design's page and in links to it. You can take your make down at any time; the design's maker and our admins may also take it down.
5. 3D models
- Licences. You choose a licence for each model: MakerFoundry's own (Personal use, Small business, Commercial), a Creative Commons licence, CC0, a GNU, BSD, Apache, MIT or CERN Open Hardware licence, or All rights reserved. The open licences are their authors' texts, linked from your model's page; they say what others may do with it, and we don't change them.
- Remixes. If your model is made from someone else's, name it as a parent, and choose a licence its licence allows (for example, a remix of a CC BY-SA model must itself be CC BY-SA; a model whose licence forbids adaptations, or keeps all rights, can't be remixed and shared without its maker's permission). MakerFoundry checks the licences you choose against the rules we publish, to help, but you are responsible for following the licences of the models you remix. You may always remix your own models.
- Models you've shared elsewhere. If you import models you've published on another site (MakerWorld, Printables, Thingiverse or anywhere), you confirm you made them or have the right to share them here, and that sharing them here doesn't break that site's terms or any licence you gave there. "Originally published on" is what you tell us; we link to it and don't check it. We may remove models whose ownership is disputed (§ 8, Reporting and removing designs).
- Your files are rebuilt. We read every file you upload to check it, measure it and draw its pictures and 3D view. A 3MF file is saved again with only what's needed to print it: its model, pictures and slicer settings. Sliced G-code and anything else in it are left out, because printers run G-code directly. STEP files and notes are offered as downloads only.
- Print settings. The print profile shown on your model (printer, nozzle, layer height, infill, supports, filaments and the like) is read from your 3MF's settings. It's what your file says, shown to help others; we don't promise it prints well on any printer.
- Likes. Signed-in members can like a published model. The number of likes is public; who liked it isn't shown.
- Founding creators may use MakerFoundry 3D before it opens to everyone.
6. Featuring your project on our social pages
When you upload a 3D model, post a make of one, or publish models you've imported, you can tick "Feature my project on MakerFoundry's social pages (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube), credited to my maker name." It's unticked unless you tick it, and you can use MakerFoundry the same either way.
If you tick it, you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to post the project's images (cropped or resized to fit), its title and a link to it on MakerFoundry's own pages on those sites, with a short caption we write that credits you by your maker name (never your email or anything else about you). We post by hand and choose what to post; ticking the box doesn't promise a post.
You can withdraw at any time from Account › Featuring your projects. Withdrawing stops new posts at once, and we take down posts already made from it within 7 days. Deleting your data withdraws everything. Posts on those sites are also governed by their own terms.
7. Rules for everyone
Don't use MakerFoundry to:
- upload or share designs that infringe anyone's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- upload anything hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent or illegal, or designs for weapons or other dangerous items;
- share or resell designs against their licence, or re-upload other makers' designs;
- mislead people: false listings, fake photos, or faked downloads;
- spam, scrape the site in bulk, get around rate limits, or make accounts to get around a ban;
- break into, overload or disrupt the site, or upload files made to harm it or its users.
8. Reporting and removing designs
Anyone can report a design with Report this design on its page. We review reports and may unpublish or remove a design, or limit or close an account, when we believe it breaks these terms. Where reasonable, we tell the maker why.
Reports, copyright notices and counter-notices work the same way for 3D models. While a model is taken down, its page, files, pictures and 3D view are hidden, and posts we made of it on our social pages are taken down. Takedowns count towards repeat infringement whatever kind of design they were.
9. Copyright (DMCA)
We respond to notices of copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). How to send a notice, and a maker's right to send a counter-notice, are described at makerfoundry.app/dmca, which also gives our designated agent's contact details. We close the accounts of makers who repeatedly infringe.
Knowingly misrepresenting that something infringes, or that it was removed by mistake, can make you liable for damages (17 U.S.C. § 512(f)).
10. Buying designs
Paid designs are sold by their makers. MakerFoundry takes payment for the maker through Stripe and passes it on, less our fee. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. Once your payment is confirmed, the design is in your library and you can download it again any time while your account is open.
Refunds. Because designs are digital files delivered at once, sales are final, except: if a file is broken, or isn't what the listing described, tell us within 30 days and we'll refund you or the maker will fix it. Where the law gives you more rights, they apply.
11. Proofs for your customers
Any MakerFoundry account can send a proof: a design file and photos, sent to a customer through a private link, for them to see, comment on, and approve or ask for changes before you stitch or cut it.
- What you send. You confirm you have the right to use the design and the photos in it, for example because it's your customer's own logo and they asked you to. The rules for everyone (§ 7) apply. Proofs are never public and aren't listings: the licences in § 3 don't apply to them, and the customer can't download the design file.
- The link. Anyone with a proof's link can see it and answer it, so share it as carefully as the design itself. You can make a new link (the old one stops working), turn it off, or delete the proof at any time.
- Your customers' answers. The name a customer types, their comments and their approval are yours: we keep them for you, show them on the proof, and use them for nothing else. We don't contact your customers. An approval records the name typed, the version and the time. It is a record for you and your customer; any agreement between you and them is yours, not ours.
- How long. A proof, its files and its conversation are deleted a year after its last activity, or sooner when you delete it or close your account.
- If a shop sent you a proof. You don't need an account. What you write on it goes to the shop that sent it; questions about the design or your order go to them.
12. Disclaimers
MakerFoundry is provided "as is" and "as available". Designs are made by their makers, not by us. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any design will be accurate, safe, legal to use for your purpose, or suit your machine. We are not responsible for damaged fabric, materials, machines or lasers, or for time spent, as a result of using a design from MakerFoundry.
13. Limitation of liability and indemnity
To the extent the law allows:
- We aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost sales or lost data.
- Our total liability to you for any claim about MakerFoundry is limited to the greater of (a) what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) $50.
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.
Indemnity. If someone makes a claim against us because of a design you published, your use of a design against its licence, or your breaking these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including legal fees. We'll tell you promptly about any such claim, and you may help defend it. This doesn't apply to claims caused by our own fault.
14. Ending things
You can unpublish or delete your designs at any time, and close your Foundry Account as StitchFoundry's Terms describe. We may limit or close an account that breaks these terms, after warning you where reasonable. If we stop running MakerFoundry, we'll give at least 30 days' notice on the site and by email.
15. Changes, governing law and contact
Changes. We may update these terms. For important changes we'll tell you on the site or by email at least 14 days before they apply. If you keep using MakerFoundry after that, the new terms apply.
Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Rhode Island, USA. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Rhode Island, unless your local consumer law gives you the right to bring them where you live. Either of us may bring a claim in small claims court instead, where it qualifies.
The whole agreement. These terms, the Privacy Policy, the Seller Terms (for sellers) and StitchFoundry's Terms (for your Foundry Account) are the whole agreement about MakerFoundry. If a part is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
